Why you might see sauna mentions
You may still see sauna or steam room mentions in Reddit threads or Google reviews for specific clubs. The Planet Fitness in Jamaica, Queens, NY comes up often. Planet Fitness does not list those amenities on its official club pages, and we have not verified them in our directory. Often the reports turn out to describe an older gym that Planet Fitness or a franchisee took over, where the previous owner’s sauna or steam room was removed or repurposed.
Why Planet Fitness does not offer saunas
Planet Fitness targets people who find traditional gyms intimidating and expensive. That includes first-time gym-goers and anyone who wants a low monthly bill more than a full-service health club.
Typical clubs are about 20,000 square feet, built around cardio and strength equipment plus free small-group training through PE@PF. Planet Fitness keeps prices low by focusing on what most members come for: a place to lift and do cardio.
Black Card puts budget into the Black Card Spa: HydroMassage, massage chairs, tanning, and Recovery Lounge where offered. Saunas need extra build-out, maintenance, and floor space that Planet Fitness does not allocate to its model.
